The first conference
The first event in Ukraine devoted entirely to high performance computing. It gathered the handful of people who were then running cluster workloads across three or four institutions.
By the mid-2000s cluster computing in Ukraine lived inside individual institutes and had almost no shared venue. The conference began as an attempt to put the people building the machines and the people running jobs on them in one room.
Speakers came from USTAR’s partners — Intel, SGI, APC — and from Igor Sikorsky KPI. The first programme was straightforward: architecture, job schedulers and early applied problems. That shape defined the years that followed.
