Integration
The eighth annual high performance computing day, and the largest in the conference’s history: around three hundred specialists over two days.
The motto that year was “Integration”. HPC DAY and the academic HPC-UA conference, until then run in partnership, were brought tightly together — the organisers hoped the two would eventually merge into one stronger event. The first hundred registrants received an HPC DAY 2013 t-shirt.
The first day was workshops in the conference hall of the KPI library: CUDA 5.5 from NVIDIA, Moab workload management from Adaptive Computing, a commercial Infiniband cloud datacentre from the HPC Advisory Council. The second day was technology presentations in Building 1, from HP server platforms and NVIDIA Tesla accelerators to FUJIFILM tape media and building a balanced cluster on a limited budget.
The theme was HPC moving out of research laboratories and into industry. HP was the general sponsor, Intel, NVIDIA and Mellanox the innovation sponsors, with Adaptive Computing, FUJIFILM and the Technical Supercomputers Laboratory among the sponsors.
This was the peak. The conference was held once more the following year, at a quarter of the size, and then not at all for two years.
